Criminal complaint filed against SUV driver who killed two men in Mandaluyong

MANILA, Philippines — The driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that hit and killed two people in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday is now facing a criminal complaint filed by the local police.

According to Police Corporal Kennon Rey Araña, suspect John Marwin Gambalan, 30, is being charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides and damage to property. Gambalan is currently detained.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on August 9, when Gambalan was allegedly speeding toward Pioneer Street. He hit Randy Manalac, a 52-year-old supervisor, and Regean Ramos, a 32-year-old helper, who were taking a break from overtime work along Madison Street.

Manalac was pinned against a concrete post and died immediately, while Ramos was rushed to the Mandaluyong City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

The results of Gambalan’s alcohol and drug tests have not yet been released by the police.
