Boys from Umingan cause upset in PNVF U-18 Championships

A team from the municipality of Umingan, Pangasinan, emerged victorious in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Under-18 Championships held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum last Sunday. Despite being inexperienced in big city competitions, the boys, supported by their coach Eusebio Solis, clinched a thrilling 5-set win over VNS-Savouge.

Coach Solis, who never played competitive volleyball and instead excelled in track events during his school days, expressed his joy and pride in leading his team to victory. He mentioned the challenges they faced but highlighted the importance of their triumph in proving that provincial teams can compete and succeed against stronger opponents from urban areas.

The triumphant squad, comprised of students from the town’s national high school and backed by their parents and Mayor Michael Cruz, is now set to represent Umingan, Pangasinan in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa nationals in Cebu this July. This unexpected victory has brought recognition to their small town and showcased their talent and determination on a national stage.
