DPWH Enhances Roads in Oriental Mindoro to Boost Agro-Ecotourism Sector

With the aim of strengthening the agro-ecotourism sector in Oriental Mindoro, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently concluded the concreting and expansion of significant roads leading to two emerging tourist destinations.

According to a report submitted by DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan highlighted the completion of the 253.7-lineal meter access road to Twin Panton Cave and Bamboo Plantation in Barangay Malubay, Municipality of Gloria. This road now provides seamless travel for tourists from various areas within the province and is expected to create additional livelihood opportunities for the local population.

Furthermore, DPWH successfully finalized another project in Oriental Mindoro, involving the widening of a 118-lineal meter section of Calapan North Road from two to four lanes, along with the construction of a slope protection structure. Situated in the rice-producing municipality of Baco, this project aims to enhance agricultural production by ensuring safer and more efficient transportation of goods and services to the market.

Implemented by the DPWH District Engineering Offices of Southern Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro, these projects received a total funding of ₱8.7 million from the 2023 General Appropriations Act.
