Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar announced that residents of flood-prone area in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental are much safer and protected with the completion of a flood-control structure in the area.
Secretary Villar said that a 263.7-meter long revetment structure was recently built along the Balatukan River in Barangay Mandangoa which used to suffer from the overflow of Balatukan River.
“This structure will prevent the flood brought by the overflowing water from the river”, added Secretary Villar.
According to DPWH Regional Office 10 Director Zenaida Tan, the river wall will help protect the communities who have been struggling to keep the water out most especially on rainy seasons.
The amount of P33 Million was allocated for this flood-control project, said Director Tan.
The construction of the river wall was completed in later part of the year 2020, funded under 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
