Dozens of children evacuated from Belgorod in Russia

Dozens of Schoolchildren Evacuated from Russian Border City Following Deadly Ukrainian Shelling Attacks

MOSCOW, Russia– A spate of deadly Ukrainian shelling attacks prompted the evacuation of dozens of schoolchildren from the Russian border city of Belgorod on Wednesday, according to the region’s governor.

The biggest evacuation from a major Russian city since Moscow launched hostilities against Ukraine in February 2022, saw some 300 residents leave Belgorod.

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced on Telegram that the first group of children have been evacuated to the neighboring region of Voronezh, which is further from the border.

“Ninety-three children from first to fourth grade from different schools of the city will have a rest and gain health in children’s health camps,” he added.

The children will stay at the camps for at least 21 days and will participate in “interesting leisure and educational programs” organized by the camps, according to Gladkov.

After a series of strikes on the city killed 25 people, Russia declared that its military would do everything possible to stop the Ukrainian shelling of Belgorod.
