River Wall Project to Safeguard Residents of Vintar, Ilocos Norte

In line with its mandate to protect lives and properties from natural disasters, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a 216-meter flood control project in Sitio Namnama, Barangay Alsem, Vintar, Ilocos Norte.

DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan commended Ilocos Norte First District Engineering Office for the on-time construction of the flood wall along the Vintar River also known as Bislak River.

“The construction of this river protection structure will not only prevent inundation and damage to properties but will also support the growing economy of Vintar as a local tourist destination,” said Director Tan.

According to DPWH Ilocos Norte First District Engineer Glenn C. Miguel, the flood mitigation structure, with a total cost of P44-million funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA), covers the construction of stone masonry on steel sheet piles.

DPWH Ilocos Norte First District Engineering Office has also recently completed the implementation of the 258-meter flood wall along Bislak River in Barangay San Ramon aimed to prevent inundation and mitigate flooding in Vintar.
