Don’t Hold Yourself Responsible: ‘The Cheating Game’ Stars Offer Support to Victims of Infidelity

Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz have joined forces for GMA Public Affairs’ inaugural film project, “The Cheating Game.” In a recent online conference, Julie Anne expressed her strong stance against infidelity, emphasizing that cheating is a non-negotiable issue for her. Although she did not mention any personal experiences, she believes that most people have likely experienced being cheated on in some way.

Dealing with infidelity can be a heavy burden, according to Julie Anne. She stressed the importance of surrounding oneself with supportive loved ones and having a system in place to help cope with such situations. Rayver Cruz, Julie Anne’s real-life boyfriend and co-star in the film, echoed her sentiments, stating that experience can serve as a tough but valuable teacher in handling these challenges.

The supporting cast members, Martin del Rosario and Winwyn Marquez, also shared their thoughts on cheating. They believe that cheating is not limited to involvement with a third party but can also manifest in the form of lies and deceit. Martin emphasized the impact of lying and hiding the truth on a relationship, stating that it can lead to a breakdown in trust and the eventual end of the partnership.

Being cheated on can often lead to self-blame and deep-seated insecurities. However, Martin advises against falling into this trap and encourages individuals to focus on forgiving themselves rather than solely forgiving their unfaithful partner. Julie Anne also emphasized the importance of self-forgiveness and the need to take time to heal and move forward.

Winwyn added that it’s important not to let past experiences make one afraid of falling in love or being loved again. She encouraged individuals to remain open to new relationships and not let fear hold them back.

“The Cheating Game,” conceptualized by Shao Masula and directed by Rod Marmol, is GMA Public Affairs’ first foray into the big screen. Described as a deep dive into the psyche of betrayed individuals, the film explores the aftermath of infidelity and offers a more mature and realistic portrayal of modern-day dating.

The story revolves around Hope (played by Julie Anne), an idealistic young professional whose world is shattered when a sex video of her fiancé, Brian (played by Martin), with another woman surfaces online. Heartbroken, Hope starts anew and embarks on a career as a content producer while navigating the dating world armed with a “cheat sheet” on cheaters. Along the way, she meets Miguel (played by Rayver), a successful businessman, and begins to unravel hidden secrets.

“The Cheating Game” promises to be a breath of fresh air for Julie Anne and Rayver, who are excited to showcase their acting skills in a movie setting. The film began shooting before the pandemic and resumed this year, with Julie Anne expressing gratitude for the opportunity.

As the film delves into the complexities of relationships and the aftermath of infidelity, it aims to provide a relatable and realistic portrayal of love and trust in the modern world. “The Cheating Game” will be released in cinemas on Wednesday.
