Dela Rosa and Hontiveros disagree on the return of ROTC

Opposing Views Emerge on ROTC Return: Dela Rosa vs. Hontiveros

In a recent statement, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa expressed his firm support for the proposed return of the mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC). He emphasized the importance of having reservists for national defense, especially amidst rising tensions in the West Philippine Sea. Dela Rosa criticized those who oppose the program, labeling them as mere “keyboard warriors” who lack real-world combat experience.

On the other hand, Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros argued against mandatory ROTC, suggesting that the focus should be on increasing funding for military modernization, particularly for the Philippine Navy. She emphasized the need for a more efficient and effective Armed Forces, rather than a large but forced military presence.

The contrasting views of the two senators highlight the ongoing debate over the role of ROTC in national security and defense. As discussions unfold in the Senate, the future of the program remains uncertain, with advocates and critics alike preparing to make their cases heard.
