Cesar, Cristine, Marco Offer Perspectives on Relationships and Matrimony

Actress Cristine Reyes has expressed uncertainty about the future of her relationship with Marco Gumabao, her real-life boyfriend and co-actor in the series “Minsan pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan.” However, Marco is more confident and considers them as an “endgame” couple. In the series, they portray high-school sweethearts Helene and Rod, who get engaged but eventually break up. During a recent Q&A session after a special screening of the pilot week, they were asked about taking their relationship to the next level. Cristine responded that it’s still too early, while Marco declared that he wouldn’t waste his time in a relationship if he didn’t see a future with the other person.

The cast members were also questioned about the importance of age in choosing life partners. Marco, who is turning 29 in August, revealed that he prefers older women, around five years older. Cristine, on the other hand, stated that she is open to dating younger men. She also emphasized the importance of not dwelling on the past and appreciating what one has in life.

Cristine, who has an 8-year-old daughter with her ex-husband Ali Khatibi, shared her perspective on moving forward. She advised against getting stuck in the past and urged people to focus on the present and be grateful. Meanwhile, Cesar Montano, who plays Cenon Aurelio in the series, explained why he believes women are more emotionally ready for commitment compared to men of the same age. Cesar, whose marriage to actress Sunshine Cruz was annulled in 2018, expressed his hope for a future marriage with his non-showbiz partner Kath Angeles.

In the series, Cesar’s character is part of a love triangle with Cristine’s character. Despite their previous father-daughter relationship in their last two films, Cesar commended Cristine’s acting skills and predicted that she would become one of the most important actresses in the industry.

Marco admitted to being starstruck when he first worked with Cristine in 2016 for the series “Tubig at Langis.” He shared that portraying her boyfriend in “Minsan pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan” evoked strong emotions, similar to his experience with Cesar. He believes that their on-screen tension will keep viewers engaged in the story.

Marco also acknowledged the challenges of working on television compared to movies and shorter series, citing the demanding time and effort required for a teleserye. However, he expressed gratitude for the guidance of their directors and creative team.

The goal for the pilot week of “Minsan pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan” is to make the audience feel annoyed with Rod for leaving Helene. The series is a TV adaptation of a 1983 film by the late National Artist for Film Marilou Diaz-Abaya. Directed by Jerome Pobocan and Tots Marisal, it premiered on July 25 and airs from Mondays to Fridays at 4:40 p.m. on TV5, with encore telecasts every day at 8 p.m. on Sari Sari Channel.
