CCC and DOH Collaborate to tackle health impacts of climate change

The Climate Change Commission (CCC) announced on Tuesday its plans to collaborate with the Department of Health (DOH) in addressing health issues related to climate change.

According to the CCC, the increased risk of heat-related illnesses, vector-borne diseases, waterborne diseases, malnutrition, and mental health concerns are all linked to climate change.

Vice Chairperson and Executive Director of CCC, Robert E.A. Borje, along with Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, have discussed potential measures to combat the adverse health effects of climate change. One key focus of their partnership will be developing and implementing climate-health-related policies and initiatives, as well as promoting public awareness and community education.

Borje emphasized the importance of having a proactive and adaptive healthcare system in the Philippines, stating that the connection between climate change and health is imperative for building a resilient and sustainable future.

On the other hand, Herbosa expressed DOH’s commitment to considering climate factors when creating healthcare strategies. He mentioned plans to build environmentally friendly hospitals and incorporate climate change adaptation into disaster risk reduction initiatives.

Both parties are optimistic about fostering partnerships for a healthier and greener future in the country.
