5 Short Films from Pelikulove to be showcased at Cinemalaya Exhibition

The upcoming anthology film “Shoutout Pinas 2022” was recently presented at a special media screening. The event was attended by the producers, actors, and writers of the five short films featured in the anthology. The film will be screened at the 19th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival on August 10.

One of the writers, Quiel dela Cruz, expressed his excitement to see his screenplay come to life on the big screen. He described the experience as “genuine kilig,” even though the topic of the film is sensitive and dark. The other short films in the anthology include “No Trespassing,” “Libro for Ransom,” “Quarantine 5,” and “When a Manananggal Loves a Man.”

Pelikulove, the organization behind the anthology, is a multiarts portal that aims to promote artistic and socially relevant content. They provide arts education and a platform for emerging artists. The organization organized the “Shoutout Pinas Festival (Maghayag at Lumikha)” online film festival in September 2022, which served as a culminating activity for their master classes.

The winning films from the festival were produced in collaboration with regional theater and film organizations. “How to Make an Effective Campaign Ad,” produced by Pelikula Indiopendent, tells the story of two ad makers working for an imprisoned politician. The other films were produced by Giya Studios, University of La Salle Bacolod, Integrated Performing Arts Guild (Ipag), and Sineng Banwa.

The writers of the films received guidance from renowned artist-mentors such as Ricky Lee, Rody Vera, and Jeffrey Jeturian. They were able to develop their scripts with the help of these mentors and create impactful and thought-provoking stories.

The anthology film “Shoutout Pinas 2022” will be shown today at the Bonifacio Room of the PICC in Pasay City.
