The First Lady’s emotions are irrelevant to my responsibilities.

VP Sara Duterte Responds to First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos’ Resentment

In a recent video message released to the media and posted on her social media accounts, Vice President Sara Duterte addressed the issue of personal feelings affecting her mandate as an official government representative. This response comes after an interview featuring first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, where she expressed her resentment towards Duterte and her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.

During the interview, Araneta-Marcos referenced a rally in Davao City led by the Dutertes, which coincided with President Marcos’ “Bagong Pilipinas” rally on Jan. 28. The first lady highlighted a moment where the Vice President allegedly laughed at her father being called a “drug addict.”

Duterte, in her video message, emphasized that personal feelings should not interfere with official duties. She also mentioned the need to focus on pressing issues facing the country, such as inflation, poverty, and security concerns.

Former Senator Leila de Lima joined calls for Duterte to resign from her position in the Marcos Cabinet, citing conflicting loyalties to her family. De Lima criticized the elder Duterte for attacking his successor and highlighted the need for political accountability in government.

The Vice President refrained from addressing the specifics of the Araneta-Marcos interview in her message, opting instead for a private conversation with the President to address the matter. Duterte stressed the importance of unity and moving forward to address the challenges confronting the nation.

The situation continues to unfold as political figures and analysts weigh in on the tensions between the Vice President and the first lady. Stay tuned for further developments as this story progresses.
