Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Could Offer Faster Charging Speeds

Typically, mobile manufacturers don’t make significant changes to their devices year after year. However, according to tipster RcloudS, the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S24+ might receive a substantial boost in fast charging support. Reports suggest that the current 45W charging capability could be increased by 45% to 65W, achieved by equipping these models with stacked batteries.

Stacked batteries have the potential to enhance device performance and charging capabilities. The implementation of a cooling gel could enable these stacked cells to deliver the aforementioned faster charging speeds. Although these batteries generate more heat due to inadequate heat dissipation, they are considered to be less prone to explosions compared to single Lithium-ion batteries.

Samsung is currently testing the stacked batteries in prototype models, and the necessary equipment for production has yet to arrive at the company’s Cheonan factory. If Samsung approves the use of stacked batteries for the Galaxy S24 series, there may be limited supply to equip the standard Galaxy S24 model with this technology. Consequently, the base model might continue to offer fast charging speeds of up to 25W, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S24+ will provide the 65W fast charging feature.

In the future, Samsung may also incorporate the stacking technology into upcoming models such as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Additionally, RcloudS claims that Apple plans to adopt stacked batteries for all four models in the iPhone 15 lineup.

For reference, the Galaxy S23 Ultra features a 4855mAh battery with a typical capacity of 5000mAh. The former value is based on the manufacturer’s testing, while the latter represents the estimated average battery capacity considering deviations among tested samples under the IEC 61960 standard. RcloudS predicts that Samsung will increase the rated battery capacity of the Galaxy S24 Ultra to 5000mAh next year, likely resulting in a higher typical battery capacity for the device.

The Galaxy S24 series is expected to be unveiled at the first Unpacked event of 2024, which is likely to take place in February.
