Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan opens up about son Donny’s entrance into showbiz in a recent interview. She shared that she initially discouraged Donny from pursuing a career as an actor, but he made the decision on his own as an adult. Maricel and husband Anthony Pangilinan were speaking at the launch of their new book, “Marriage Is a Marathon: Run it One Step at a Time.”
Maricel revealed that Donny has a unique way of dealing with fame and popularity. When he is at home, he wants to be treated just like their son and not talk about work-related topics. Donny also does chores like washing the dishes. Anthony added that Donny is not present at the book launch because he’s accompanying their youngest daughter, Solana, on her first day of school.
Anthony praised Donny for his qualities, saying that he combines Maricel’s spontaneity and chill attitude with his own ability to assess everything before getting into something. He also mentioned that he looks up to the way Donny treats women and his friends. Donny has three other siblings – Ella, Hannah, and Benjamin.
Maricel also shared that she is now enjoying her own acting career, which was encouraged by her children. She mentioned that it initially felt unusual since she left showbiz to take care of her family. However, her children expressed their support and told her it was her time to shine. Maricel recently starred in the hit drama film “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” for which she won two acting awards.
Anthony revealed that Maricel’s return to acting is a bonus for Donny as well. When Donny has to shoot difficult scenes or deal with heavy emotions, Maricel helps him process his emotions.
Maricel and Donny will also be seen together in the upcoming movie “GG,” an esports film about relationships. Maricel described it as a film about relationships with friends and moms. Donny is also a producer on the project. The film is set to be released in the fourth quarter of 2023 and is managed by ABS-CBN’s Star Magic.
Aside from their book launch, the couple is also preparing for their eldest daughter Ella’s wedding, which will take place after August. Maricel shared that Ella and her fiancé Enrique have been together for six years and have involved their families from the beginning. She mentioned that Ella asked for Anthony’s blessing before committing to the relationship.
The book, “Marriage Is a Marathon,” took the couple five years to make and includes input from their children. It discusses their pre- and post-wedding experiences and their family’s journey as the running Team Pangilinan. Maricel expressed that they wanted to produce something special, which is why it took time to refine the book.
