Explosion at Mindanao State University Gymnasium During Religious Gathering Denounced

The Mindanao State University (MSU) has strongly condemned the act of violence that took place during a religious gathering at the university gymnasium on Sunday, Dec. 3.

According to reports, the explosion occurred at the Dimaporo Gymnasium inside the university while there was an ongoing Advent mass for worshipping Christians around 7 a.m. MSU issued a statement calling the incident a “senseless act of violence” that has no place in a civilized society.

The university administration described the act as an “assault on our core values and commitment to creating a safe and inclusive community for all,” emphasizing that violence has no place in a civilized society, especially within an institution of higher learning like MSU.

MSU expressed its deepest condolences to the victims and their families and pledged to support and assist those affected by the tragedy. Additionally, to ensure the safety and well-being of the MSU community, particularly the Christians, the university has suspended classes until further notice and increased security personnel to safeguard the campus.

The university is working closely with local government units (LGU) and law enforcement authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. Despite the act of violence, MSU has vowed to continue working towards building a more peaceful and just community.
