San Miguel Beermen reclaim lead position

San Miguel Beer Takes Game 5, Edges Closer to PBA Commissioner’s Cup Title

In a crucial Game 5 showdown, the San Miguel Beermen secured a 108-98 victory over Magnolia, taking a 3-2 lead in the race-to-four finale of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

San Miguel Beer came out strong after previously blowing a 2-0 head start, with Jericho Cruz delivering an explosive performance, scoring 30 points, including eight three-pointers. Simon Enciso also made a significant contribution with 15 points, all from beyond the arc.

Despite a strong offensive effort from Magnolia, San Miguel Beer managed to maintain control, holding a 99-90 cushion going into the final minutes. As Magnolia attempted to close the gap, Cruz’s eighth triple of the night helped seal the win for San Miguel Beer.

With the pivotal Game 5 win, San Miguel Beer now has the opportunity to close out the series in Game 6 and claim the championship title. Coach Jorge Gallent expressed confidence in his team’s ability to stay composed and make up for mistakes, emphasizing the importance of the team’s performance in the fourth quarter.

The victory comes as a significant turnaround for San Miguel Beer, following their losses in Games 3 and 4 against Magnolia. The Beermen found ways to overcome Magnolia’s stifling defense and secure a crucial win in the tiebreaking match.

If San Miguel Beer manages to secure a win in Game 6, it will mark coach Jorge Gallent’s first and the franchise’s 29th overall championship, making it a potential Valentine’s Day clincher for the team.
