Economic Concerns Arise as NLEx Faces Severe Flooding

Thousands of motorists have been dealing with the inconvenience of flooding on a section of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) due to heavy rains over the past two weeks. While the NLEx remains open to vehicles, the 18-inch deep flooding has caused significant slowdowns and heavy traffic on both north and southbound lanes.

The situation reached a breaking point on Tuesday when motorists were stuck in traffic for hours near San Simon, Pampanga. Despite only a 50-meter stretch of road being flooded, the impact on transportation between Manila and northern Luzon was significant. This flooding not only affects travelers but also has negative implications for the local economy and the company operating the NLEx, which is experiencing reduced revenue due to slower traffic flow.

Motorists are frustrated by the lack of action to alleviate the flooding, suggesting that the toll hike approved earlier this year should be used to address these issues.
