DTI and QC collaborate to streamline online registration and permit systems for startups

DTI and Quezon City Government Sign Agreement to Streamline Business Registration Process

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Quezon City government to integrate its business name registration system with the city’s online permit portal, making it easier for business startups in the area.

The integration between the DTI’s Business Name Registration System (BNRS) and the Quezon City government’s Online Unified Business Permit Application System (OUBPAS) aims to streamline the procedures and requirements for business name registration.

Trade Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual and Quezon City Mayor Ma. Josefina “Joy” Belmonte signed the agreement on Monday. Quezon City is the first local government unit to agree to the proposal of integrating the two systems.

“We thank Mayor Joy Belmonte for partnering with us in making doing business in Quezon City easier,” said Secretary Pascual in a statement. He added that the DTI has reached out to several other cities to propose similar system integration initiatives.

The agreement also covers data sharing and system integration technical provisions between the DTI and the Quezon City government. The DTI ensures that all sensitive personal information maintained by the government will be secured under industry standards in the information and communications technology sector.

According to data from the Department of Finance (DOF), Quezon City was recognized as the country’s top tax collector among cities in 2021, generating P22.9 billion. The city’s revenues come from various taxes, including real property, business, amusement, transfer, and contractors’ taxes.

The integration of the business name registration system and online permit portal is part of the DTI’s efforts to attract investments and create a favorable business environment for potential investors. The streamlined process will contribute to the growth of businesses in Quezon City and Metro Manila’s larger business community.
