A tropical depression named Aghon has slightly strengthened as the number of areas under Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 1 rose to 18 on Friday afternoon. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that Aghon was last seen 135 kilometers east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Moving west-northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour (kph), Aghon now has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 70 kph. Pagasa stated that Aghon is forecast to move generally west-northwestward and make a close approach or landfall in the vicinity of Eastern Visayas on Saturday morning.

As a result of Aghon’s effects, Pagasa hoisted Signal No. 1 in various areas including parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Signal No. 1 is raised when strong winds are expected but pose minimal threat to life and property.
