Zara owner Inditex is set to stop sourcing from Myanmar, according to a company spokesperson. The decision comes in response to a campaign by global workers’ union IndustriALL, which aims to persuade companies to divest from the country due to the military junta that has been in power since a coup in February 2021.
Inditex did not provide a specific timeline for its exit, and it does not publicly disclose its list of suppliers in Myanmar. Myanmar is a major producer of garments for Western brands and retailers. The move by Inditex follows a report last month by news site Sourcing Journal that the company planned to exit Myanmar.
