Areas in Luzon Expected to Reach Highest Heat Index on Thursday

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has forecasted that three areas in Luzon are expected to hit the highest heat index on Thursday at 46 degrees Celsius (°C).

According to Pagasa, the areas expected to experience this extreme heat are Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City, Dagupan City in Pangasinan, and Sangley Point in Cavite.

Pagasa classified a heat index of 42 to 51°C under the “danger” category, which could lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke with continued exposure to heat or sun.

Additionally, the Central Luzon State University in Nueva Ecija and Cubi Point in Subic Bay, Olongapo City are also expected to experience high temperatures of 45°C.

Seven other areas in Luzon may reach extreme heat at 44°C. These areas include Bacnotan, La Union; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Malunay, Quezon; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Roxas City, Capiz.

Furthermore, 23 areas are predicted to hit temperatures ranging from 42°C to 43°C. Among these areas are Science Garden in Quezon City, Aparri in Cagayan, Iloilo City in Iloilo, and Dipolog in Zamboanga Del Norte.

Given the extreme heat, Pagasa advised the public to limit outdoor time, drink plenty of water, avoid certain beverages like tea, coffee, soda, and liquor, use umbrellas and wear hats and sleeved clothing outdoors, and schedule heavy-duty activities during cooler periods of the day.
