Pura Luka Vega Finds Comfort in Belief that God is Supportive Following Second Arrest



Embattled drag performer Pura Luka Vega recently faced their second arrest but remained steadfast in their belief that drag is not a crime. Speaking at the “Drag Den Philippines” season two viewing party, Pura emphasized that drag is an expression and a beautiful art form that should not be deemed illegal.

Pura, who identifies with the pronouns they/them, expressed gratitude for the support they received after being apprehended by the Manila Police District for their “Ama Namin” video. Their arrest stemmed from three counts of violation of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code.

Despite the challenges they faced, Pura’s faith in God remained unwavering. They acknowledged the ongoing legal battles and highlighted the importance of staying true to oneself amid societal pressures. Pura viewed their situation as a litmus test for the acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community in society.

While dealing with court hearings and legal proceedings, Pura emphasized the resilience and courage needed to navigate such difficult times. They encouraged self-love and authenticity, urging individuals to embrace who they are without conforming to societal standards.
