Philippines Urges Immediate Implementation of Ceasefire Plan in Gaza

The Philippines Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza Strip

The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines has restated its plea for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, urging the United Nations Security Council to swiftly implement a proposed ceasefire deal to end the ongoing conflict.

UNSC Resolution 2735, adopted on June 10 with overwhelming support, calls on Hamas to accept a three-phase ceasefire agreement. This deal includes conditions for the release of all hostages held by Hamas, the establishment of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and the initiation of a multi-year reconstruction plan. While Israel has agreed to this resolution, they have also declared their intention to continue military operations.

“The Philippines reiterates its call for an immediate ceasefire, the safe release of hostages, and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. It is crucial to promptly implement these measures to ease the suffering of innocent civilians affected by the conflict,” stated the DFA.

The Philippines remains steadfast in supporting initiatives for a peaceful resolution in Gaza and is prepared to contribute to efforts promoting stability, security, and peace in the region.

A senior Hamas official welcomed the UNSC resolution a day after its adoption and expressed readiness to negotiate details of the ceasefire plan. The resolution’s strong backing in the UN Security Council intensifies pressure on both Israel and Hamas to agree to the proposal.

While Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has voiced reservations about certain aspects of the plan, the proposed ceasefire would entail a series of phases aiming to facilitate peace and aid delivery in Gaza.

The implementation of this proposed ceasefire is seen as a critical step towards resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
