In a major breakthrough, agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) successfully apprehended four individuals involved in drug peddling and confiscated around P68,000,000 ($1.4 million) worth of shabu on Friday, October 13th.

The suspects were identified as Joem Gumbay, aged 29; Jonjon Almario, aged 18; Ysmael Abas, aged 28; Jonnard Mondez, aged 28, and Sittie Mariam Gumbay, aged 28. The PDEA team, led by the Regional Office-National Capital Region (RO-NCR), executed a strategic operation upon receiving information regarding the presence of drug suspects at a residential unit along E. Rodriguez Street.

During the buy-bust operation, the operatives were able to seize 1000 grams of shabu. Additionally, they discovered an astonishing 9,000 grams of the illicit substance hidden inside a black megabox. Apart from the drugs, bundles of boodle money, one genuine P1000 bill, four cellular phones, and various drug transaction documents were also confiscated.

The suspects will face charges under Section 5 of Republic Act (RA) 9165, commonly known as “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.” This section specifically deals with the sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution, and transportation of dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals.

The successful operation and seizure of such a substantial amount of shabu is a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in the country. The PDEA remains committed to the relentless pursuit of drug peddlers and aims to dismantle drug operations nationwide to ensure the safety and well-being of the Filipino public.
