Pagasa warns of extreme heat index in Zambales

Parts of Zambales Experience Dangerous Heat Index

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Certain areas of Zambales are currently facing dangerous levels of heat index, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa reported that the heat index in Iba, the capital town, was expected to reach 43°C on Thursday, April 25. Along with Iba, 36 other locations in the country were expected to experience dangerous heat indexes, with Cavite City topping the list at 47°C.

Additionally, the towns of Subic and San Marcelino in Zambales have also begun to experience dangerous heat indexes earlier this week.

Health officials are warning residents in these high-temperature areas to avoid prolonged sun exposure to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The heat index measures the discomfort experienced by individuals due to the combination of temperature and humidity in the air. Pagasa categorizes a heat index from 42°C to 51°C as dangerous.
