The Philippines Surpasses 2 Million International Tourist Arrivals in April

The Philippines has recorded over 2 million international tourist arrivals as of April this year, according to the latest report from the Department of Tourism. The data shows a total of 2,010,522 international visitors as of April 24, 2024.

Out of these arrivals, 1,894,076 or 94.21% are foreign tourists, while 116,446 or 5.79% are overseas Filipinos. Compared to the same period last year, the country saw a 15.11% increase in international arrivals, with 1,746,630 visitors recorded.

South Korea remains the top source market for inbound visitor arrivals, contributing 546,726 or 27.19% of tourists entering the Philippines. This is followed by the United States with 315,816 tourists, China with 130,574, Japan with 123,204, and Australia with 88,048.

Additionally, the country’s international tourism receipts reached P157.62 billion from January to March 31, 2024. This marks a significant recovery rate of 120.70% compared to the revenue gained in the same period in 2019 before the global travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco expressed optimism about the positive trajectory of the country’s tourist arrivals. She highlighted the collaboration and collective effort that have led to these promising figures and expressed hope for further increases with investments in tourism infrastructure and improvements in connectivity.

The Department of Tourism aims to target a baseline of 7.7 million international tourist arrivals for 2024, nearing the 8.26 million inbound visitors recorded in 2019.
