PAGASA: Philippines Anticipates Arrival of 8 More Typhoons this Year

According to a state weather official, the Philippines is bracing for the arrival of approximately eight additional tropical cyclones before the year concludes. Dr. Nathaniel Servando, the deputy administrator of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), shared this forecast during a weekly media forum in Quezon City.

Dr. Servando emphasized that the most powerful typhoons are anticipated to strike the country during September and October of this year.

Despite the projected weather disturbances, Dr. Servando pointed out that there could be a silver lining as these storms are likely to bring much-needed rainfall. This increase in precipitation can help ensure a sufficient water supply, especially with the looming El Niño phenomenon.

In particular, he mentioned that at least two of the storms might bring rains over Bulacan’s Angat Dam, which serves as the primary source of potable water for Metro Manila.

In a separate update, Dr. Servando stated that Typhoon Falcon, which has already entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), is not expected to make landfall. Instead, it is likely to exit the country within the next two to three days or by the following week.
