Olivarez and Arcilla to vie for National Open Tennis championship



In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Eric Jed Olivarez and Johnny Arcilla emerged victorious in the Mayor Eric Olivarez National Open Tennis Championships. The stage is now set for a title showdown between the tournament’s top two seeds at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.

Top-seeded Olivarez had to mount a comeback after losing the first set to defeat Alexis Acabo in a hard-fought match, with a final score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. On the other hand, second-ranked Arcilla showcased his experience by swiftly dispatching Vicente Anasta with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

The upcoming men’s singles final promises an exciting clash between youth and experience, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 16. Both players have a history of facing off in intense matches, with Olivarez seeking revenge after Arcilla’s previous victory in the Lanao del Norte Open.

In addition to their singles success, both Olivarez and Arcilla have advanced to the finals of the men’s doubles competition. They are poised for a potential sweep of the tournament as they aim to secure multiple titles.

The event also featured competitive junior competitions, with top seeds Jana Diaz and Erynne Ong set to face off for two titles. The tournament, sanctioned by Philta and supported by Universal Ranking, Dunlop, and ICON Golf & Sports, showcased the talent and determination of young Filipino tennis players across different age categories.
