More than 250 participants compete in PPS Gov. Castro Cup tennis tournament



The spotlight is on emerging talents from Western Visayas as the Gov. Fredenil Castro Cup National Junior Tennis Championship gathers over 250 entries in nine singles age-group categories. The tournament, presented by Dunlop, has kicked off at the Villareal Stadium hard courts in Roxas, Capiz.

Promising young players like Ian Ituriaga, Ralph Angeles, Marben Alimarin, and Niño Rey are expected to lead the title chase in the boys’ divisions. In the girls’ categories, players to watch out for include Alexandra Onte, Maxene Panizales, Wenzhey Lacupa, and Alleva Suace.

The competition features intense battles in various divisions, including boys’ 18-, 16-, 14-, 12-and-under, and girls’ 14- and 16-and-U categories. The event, held in celebration of the Capiztahan Festival, promises top-notch tennis action and a display of passion for the sport among young players from Region VI and neighboring areas.

In addition to the singles matches, five titles will be up for grabs in doubles matches, adding excitement to the five-day tournament. The event is sanctioned by Philta and supported by Slazenger and Universal Tennis Ranking, with Rudolfo Suites serving as the official hotel.

To make the tournament even more thrilling, a Legends singles competition is also included, featuring age categories of 35 and 45, along with doubles matches in various age divisions. This event adds another layer of competition and showcases the love for tennis among players of all ages.
