Miss International Asia-Pacific crowned amidst slip on stage
Nicole Borromeo, a 22-year-old beauty queen from Cebu City, proudly represented the Philippines as she entered the Top 15 of the Miss International 2023 pageant. The prestigious event took place in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday night, showcasing the diverse talents and stunning beauty of contestants from around the world.
One of the highlights of the evening was when Miss Macau Emily Yau was proclaimed Miss International Asia-Pacific. However, the newly crowned Continental Queen faced a moment of embarrassment when she slipped on stage. Thankfully, her fellow contestants rushed to her aid, helping her regain her footing and making sure she stood tall again.
Joining Yau as representatives for their respective regions were candidates from Ghana (Africa), the United States (Americas), and the United Kingdom (Europe). These talented women showcased their beauty, grace, and intelligence throughout the competition, earning their place in the semi-finals.
The other contestants who made it to the semi-finals were from Thailand, Panama, Mexico, Peru, Greece, Cote d’Ivoire, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Hong Kong, Venezuela, and Malaysia. Each of them demonstrated their unique qualities and impressed the judges with their stellar performances.
Nicole Borromeo, known for her captivating beauty and charisma, had previously earned the title of Bb. Pilipinas International 2022 on July 31, 2022. However, her journey to compete in the Miss International pageant was postponed due to the global pandemic. Despite the delay, Borromeo proved her worth by making it to the prestigious Top 15 in the international stage.
When asked about her plans for the Miss International title if she were to emerge victorious, Nicole Borromeo expressed her desire to promote understanding and cultural exchange between countries. She emphasized the importance of embracing both the similarities and differences among nations, particularly highlighting the existing bond between the Philippines and Japan. Borromeo envisioned her potential reign to be filled with activities that would encourage people to come together and learn from one another, such as making traditional Japanese tea ceremonies more accessible to the public.
This year’s Miss International pageant features a total of seventy outstanding candidates, each vying for the coveted title. With their remarkable talents and captivating personalities, they are set to mesmerize audiences and leave an indelible mark on the world stage.
