Meralco plays down victory in Game 1 against Beermen

In a thrilling showdown at the PBA Philippine Cup finals, the Meralco Bolts emerged victorious in Game 1 against the San Miguel Beermen. Guard Chris Newsome emphasized that while winning the first game was a positive start, their work is far from done.

The Bolts secured a 93-86 win over the defending champions, holding them to their lowest scoring output of the conference. Newsome, who led his team with 18 points, reiterated the importance of focusing on the remaining three wins needed to clinch the championship.

Reflecting on their previous semifinals clash with Barangay Ginebra, Newsome highlighted the significance of not becoming complacent after winning the first game. He praised his teammates Cliff Hodge, Raymond Almazan, and Brandon Bates for their crucial contributions in securing the victory.

With Game 2 scheduled for Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the Bolts are determined to build on their momentum and go up 2-0 in the series. Newsome stressed the importance of staying focused and putting in the work necessary to achieve their ultimate goal.
