Marcos Jr. refuses to approve traffic circular increasing parking fines to P4K

Proposal to Increase Illegal Parking Fines in Metro Manila Rejected

In a recent announcement, President Marcos has rejected a proposal to increase illegal parking fines in Metro Manila from P1,000 to P4,000. The President stated that the fine will remain at P1,000 as he prioritizes discipline over penalties.

According to Marcos, the focus should be on individual responsibility to create long-lasting solutions to traffic challenges. He emphasized the importance of following traffic rules to alleviate traffic problems in the city.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has confirmed that they will comply with Marcos’ directive to maintain the current penalty for illegal parking. Additionally, the imposition of penalties on e-bikes, e-trikes, and other vehicles prohibited from national roads has been suspended for a month to allow drivers more time to adjust to the new policy.

Marcos clarified that despite the suspension, these vehicles are still prohibited on certain national roads as per MMDA Regulation No. 24-022 Series of 2024. The MMC, composed of mayors from the National Capital Region and the MMDA chairman, is actively working on innovative solutions to address rush hour congestion.

San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora, the current MMC president, has echoed Marcos’ call for a comprehensive approach to solving the country’s traffic woes. The MMC is committed to finding practical and effective solutions to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in Metro Manila.
