France Victorious in United Cup Quarterfinals Match Against Italy

Earlier this week, on January 3rd, French players Adrian Mannarino and Caroline Garcia secured a win, advancing the national team into a United Cup quarterfinal match against Norway’s Casper Ruud.

Mannarino clinched the first win, defeating Lorenzo Sonego with a score of 6-4, 6-3, while Garcia battled through a close match against Jasmine Paolini, finishing with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory.

This double win secured France’s spot in the knockout rounds of the mixed teams tournament, with the team set to face off against Norway in the next round.

The tournament in Perth has also confirmed quarterfinal matches for Poland and China, as well as Serbia and Australia. Notably, Novak Djokovic will be facing Australian number one, Alex De Minaur, after needing treatment for a sore wrist during his win over Jiri Lehecka.

Mannarino had an exceptional 2021 season, winning titles at Astana, Newport, and Sofia, which propelled him to a career-high 22nd ranking. Meanwhile, Garcia, who was once ranked fourth in the world, has since slipped to 20th in the rankings.

Despite the challenging match against Paolini, Garcia served to love and secured the win after 2 hours and 16 minutes of play.

The French team’s victories have set the stage for an exciting round of quarterfinal matches in what promises to be an action-packed United Cup tournament.
