Honne’s Music: Cross-Cultural Journeys That Know No Bounds

Popular British electronic music duo Honne recently made a stop at Red House in Joo Chiat as part of their “Inside-out” video series. Comprising singer-producer Andy Clutterbuck and producer James Hatcher, Honne has gained a massive following in Southeast Asia, with over 1 million YouTube subscribers and 1.5 million Spotify followers. Their music, known for its soulful and dreamy soundscapes, has transcended language and geographical boundaries in countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

During their 2023 Asia tour, Honne sold over 50,000 tickets for their shows across the region, including their standing room only performances in Manila, Cebu, and Davao last March. In 2021, the duo came up with the unique idea for their “Inside-out” video collection, featuring acoustic renditions of their hit songs captured by a camera placed inside a guitar. The series, initially filmed in their respective homes, expanded its scope with a partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Warner Music Singapore.

The collaboration led to the launch of “Inside-out in Singapore” on Honne’s Instagram and TikTok pages last week. The band performed exclusive acoustic versions of their songs “Location Unknown,” “Day 1,” and “No Song Without You” in three different neighborhoods in Singapore: Joo Chiat, Keong Saik Road, and Marina Bay. STB executive director Terrence Voon explained that the partnership aimed to showcase Singapore in a new light and provide fresh perspectives for visitors.

Honne’s music often draws inspiration from their travels, with their lyrics reflecting their experiences. The duo expressed their satisfaction with both making music and traveling, as they find joy in creating new songs and connecting with audiences around the world. As Honne prepares to celebrate their 10th anniversary next year, they reflected on the evolution of their music, emphasizing their desire to stay excited and keep their sound fresh.

Fans can look forward to Honne’s upcoming releases, as they continue to explore new directions in their music.
