DSWD FO2 on alert status as STS Florita hits Cagayan Valley

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – As the lead agency of the disaster response cluster in the region, the Department of Social Welfare and Developmet Field Office 2 (DSWD FO2) together with the Provincial/City/Municipal Actions Teams, SWAD Teams and Quick Response Teams are placed on alert status to closely monitor the effects of Severe Tropical Storm Florita (STS Florita) in the region.

As of this writing, a total of 3 provinces are affected, with 168 families and 593 individuals reported to be in distress. There are currently 9 evacuation centers open to cater to displaced families and individuals.

“DSWD FO2 is on full force to monitor the adverse effects of the typhoon in the Region. Agency personnel are also on standby and are ready to facilitate immediate distribution of relief goods and other assistance to LGUs if and when they need augmentation,” said OIC Regional Director Celso Arao, Jr.

Meanwhile, to address the basic emergency needs of the affected individuals and families, a total of 22, 982 Family Food Packs consists of canned goods, coffee, rice and powdered cereal drinks as well as 5,610 Non-Food Items which includes kitchen kit, hygiene kit, sleeping kit, family clothing kit and family tents are available and are ready for distribution.

Re-packing of additional relief goods are also underway, with the help of personnel from the Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection and Philippine Army 201st Cagayan Ready Reserve Infantry Batallion-2RCDG RESCOM Philippine Army.

DSWD FO2 will continue to monitor the status of affected individuals, as well as provide assistance and relevant updates regarding the effects of STS FLORITA in the region.
