DOTr Announces Removal of Face Mask and COVID Protocols in Public Transport

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has made a significant announcement, declaring the removal of all COVID-19 protocols, including the mandatory face mask requirement, for all public transport services throughout the country. This decision comes as a result of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Proclamation No. 297, which officially lifted the state of public health emergency related to COVID-19 across the nation. The Department of Health has also echoed this proclamation, confirming that the face mask requirement is no longer in effect for public transport.

Additionally, Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista stated that physical distancing protocols in public transportation will also be lifted, allowing all passenger vehicles to operate at full capacity. This move is seen as a significant step towards restoring normalcy to public transportation and aiding in the country’s economic recovery.

Secretary Bautista emphasized that while public safety remains a top priority, the removal of protocols aims to enhance commuters’ convenience, support the revival of the transportation industry, and stimulate economic activity. It is important to note that despite the removal of existing COVID-19 protocols, frequent sanitization of public transportation will continue to be upheld to prevent any potential health risks.
