Classes Suspended in Certain Areas of Cavite on September 22 due to Taal Volcanic Activities

Classes in several local government units (LGUs) in Cavite have been suspended as a precautionary measure against hazardous volcanic smog or vog coming from Taal volcano. The suspension affects both public and private schools in the following areas: Alfonso, Amadeo, Cavite City, Dasmariñas, General Emilio Aguinaldo (Bailen), General Trias, Kawit, Imus, Magallanes, Mendez-Nuñez, Maragondon, Naic, Noveleta, Rosario, Silang, Tagaytay, Tanza, Ternate, and Trece Martires.

In response to the situation, the Provincial Health Office has recommended that residents near Taal volcano wear face masks, particularly those who have respiratory problems. Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has advised affected communities to minimize their exposure to vog by staying indoors and sealing doors and windows to prevent the entry of toxic gas.

The issue of volcanic smog was highlighted by a photograph taken in Kawit, Cavite, showing the smog blanketing the area. The image, captured by Allan Faustino Bella, serves as a visual representation of the concerning situation.

Residents and authorities are urged to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to ensure their well-being amidst the presence of hazardous vog.
