25-year-old man arrested after failed pawnshop robbery attempt
CEBU CITY – A 25-year-old man named Juanito Branzuela Dilvo Jr. was arrested after attempting to rob a pawnshop and getting stuck in the ceiling of the establishment. Dilvo, a native of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur living in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City, broke into the Palawan Pawnshop on Natalio Bacalso Ave on Wednesday night, December 13. After gaining entry through the ceiling, he took cash from the drawers inside the pawnshop and attempted to escape, but ended up stuck in the hole of the ceiling.
Police received a call on Thursday morning, December 14, reporting a loud thud inside the pawnshop. Officers from the Labangon Police Station rushed to the scene and discovered Dilvo inside. The Special Weapons and Tactics team was called in after it was revealed that Dilvo had taken the pawnshop’s security guard’s firearm and was armed with a grenade. Following a brief negotiation, police were able to convince Dilvo to surrender. They recovered P5,000 in cash from his possession.
Dilvo later admitted to robbing the pawnshop in order to send money to his relatives in Negros and also confessed to using drugs before committing the robbery.
