1 Abu Sayyaf Group member killed, 3 police officers injured in anti-terrorism operation in Tawi-Tawi

In a recent counter-terrorism operation in Tawi-Tawi, a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was killed and three police personnel were injured. The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil confirmed the incident, identifying the deceased ASG member as Udon Hasim, who had 21 arrest warrants, including 17 for murder and four for frustrated murder. During the operation, three police officers sustained injuries but were in stable condition. Marbil stated that two of Hasim’s accomplices were also injured in the clash.

The operation, led by the PNP’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Special Action Force, resulted in a 30-minute firefight. Marbil highlighted Hasim’s involvement in a 2013 ambush that killed 23 civilians in Talipao, Sulu, and his participation in illegal drug activities. The successful implementation of the arrest warrants was praised by Marbil as a significant accomplishment by the intelligence group, CIDG, SAF, and policemen in Tawi-Tawi.
