Zubiri affirms ‘Magic 7’ bloc’s decision to stay independent

Seven Senators Consider Options Following Senate Leadership Change

In light of the recent change in Senate leadership, seven senators are still considering their options moving forward. Senators Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, Loren Legarda, Joel Villanueva, JV Ejercito, Sonny Angara, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Nancy Binay have not committed to joining the minority bloc led by Senators Koko Pimentel and Risa Hontiveros.

Zubiri emphasized that their seven-member bloc would remain independent, referring to themselves as the “Magic 7.” He stated, “Our bond as seatmates just became stronger.”

Villanueva mentioned that he is still studying all possibilities and could potentially join the minority. Meanwhile, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero assured that there would be no immediate changes in the Senate committee chairmanships.

He mentioned that some senators could still pursue investigations within their respective committees, such as the probe into the so-called PDEA leaks by the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs. Escudero highlighted the smooth transition of power, noting that the Senate President resigns rather than being removed.

The senators are still deliberating on their next steps as the Senate moves forward under new leadership.
