Pagasa predicts Aparri heat index will reach 47ºC on May 31

Aparri in Cagayan Province to Experience Peak Heat Index of 47ºC on May 31

The state weather agency has predicted that Aparri in Cagayan province will experience a peak heat index of 47ºC on Friday, May 31. Along with Aparri, 42 other areas across the country are also expected to feel dangerously high temperatures on the same day.

Despite the start of the rainy season declared by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on May 29, the high humidity levels are contributing to the abnormally high temperatures, reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.

Pagasa categorizes heat indices ranging from 42ºC to 51ºC as being in the “danger category” due to the increased risk of high-temperature-related illnesses like heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

A list of the 42 other areas forecasted to record a heat index of or above 42ºC on May 31 includes:

  • Laoag City, Ilocos Norte – 46ºC
  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 46ºC
  • Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 46ºC
  • MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte – 45ºC
  • Catarman, Northern Samar – 45ºC
  • Baler (Radar), Aurora – 45ºC
  • And more.

Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses due to the extreme temperatures.
