Newbie Producer Alden Reflects on Financial Losses and Gaining Experiences through Challenges

Alden Richards Expands Portfolio Beyond Showbiz with Myriad Entertainment Corporation

Apart from his successful showbiz career, Alden Richards has been venturing into various fields in recent years. The actor has delved into the food industry, opening his own restaurants and acquiring fast food franchises. Now, he has made a foray into production with his own company, Myriad Entertainment Corporation. The company supports film projects and organizes E-sports events and live concerts, such as the Eraserheads’ reunion concert last December.

However, Alden admits that the process of expanding his portfolio has been challenging. He had to learn the ropes the hard way. “I was already fond of organizing online gaming events even before Myriad was officially formed. And it was a reality check for me. Money was going out, but nothing was coming back in—there was no profit. I didn’t see the potential,” he revealed in a recent virtual conference.

Initially, Alden would organize tournaments and distribute cash prizes, but he soon realized that his happiness alone couldn’t sustain a business. He learned the importance of making informed decisions, putting emotions aside. “You have to stay in neutral mode. If you’re sad, angry, happy—you can’t make that decision. You have to check all sides, the good sides, the repercussions,” he emphasized.

Saying “no” graciously is another essential skill Alden has acquired. “Production involves money. Right now, opportunities are coming our way. But I’m learning how to say no. I’m grateful for the potential partnerships, but I have to check or make sure if our finances can handle them,” he explained.

Despite the challenges, Alden finds joy in producing because it gives him creative freedom. He can pursue projects that resonate with him and have a say in the roles he plays. As proof of this newfound freedom, Alden has handpicked the stories for the month-long special of the drama anthology “Magpakailanman.” The four episodes for August feature stories that he finds particularly challenging.

But Alden doesn’t plan to rest on his laurels. Even as one of GMA 7’s top stars, he wants to continually test himself and take on more challenging roles. “I want to test myself, I don’t want to just relax. When you just stick to roles you’re comfortable with, that for me, is the death of an actor,” he expressed.

Alden is excited about his upcoming projects and the opportunity to work with new talents. His dedication to bringing entertainment to the people and making them feel satisfied is what keeps him motivated.
