New campaign raises awareness on children’s susceptibility to ‘fake news’

A recent campaign by PressOne.PH aims to raise awareness about the susceptibility of children to false information. The news website launched an advocacy campaign, creating a Facebook page called “News by Kids”, where children share stories they have heard or seen online. The initiative comes in response to concerns about the influence of misinformation on younger generations.

The page features news stories written by children, accompanied by sketches. While the content may appear cute, PressOne warns that it could be false or misleading. The website also distributed limited-edition printed materials in high-traffic areas to further spread awareness.

After allowing netizens to analyze the credibility of the stories, PressOne revealed that the page was a social experiment to test the prevalence of fake news. All stories were fact-checked and published on the PressOne.PH website and social media platforms. Moving forward, the Facebook page will continue to educate about the dangers of misinformation for children, in collaboration with RedBin Philippines.
