Marcos sees no justification to dismiss VP Duterte from Cabinet

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated on Tuesday that there is no need to replace Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte in his Cabinet. He emphasized that Cabinet secretaries would only be replaced if they are not performing their duties. The President addressed concerns about his wife’s sentiments towards Duterte, maintaining that it would not affect their working relationship. This comes after First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos voiced her displeasure towards the Vice President in a recent interview. Despite the tension between the two families, Marcos expressed that he does not feel the need to reconcile. Duterte, on the other hand, acknowledged the First Lady’s feelings but affirmed that personal emotions would not interfere with her government responsibilities. The strained relationship between the Duterte and Marcos families has escalated as they both aim to strengthen their influence before the 2025 midterms.
