Medicine program now available at universities in La Union and Bulacan

Two Universities Granted Approval by CHEd to Offer Doctor of Medicine Program

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) has recently approved two universities in La Union and Bulacan to operate a Doctor of Medicine program. In a statement released on Thursday, CHEd confirmed that Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) and Bulacan State University (BulSu) will begin offering this program in the academic year 2024-2025.

According to CHEd, BulSu is the first state university in Region 3 to provide medical education and the 22nd State University and College (SUC) to receive approval for this program. DMMMSU is now the third SUC in Region 1 to offer the Doctor of Medicine program, making it the 21st public medical school in the country.

In a quote from the statement, CHEd Secretary Popoy de Vera expressed, “Now we can produce more doctors through our top SUCs, who will go to underserved areas specifically in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas or in municipalities without government physicians in need of health personnel.”

Currently, the Cordillera Administrative Region and CARAGA are the only regions without an SUC that offers a medicine program.
