Herbosa Speaks to Colleagues at Philippine Society for the Surgery of Trauma

Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa recently met with the Philippine Society for the Surgery of Trauma at its 18th Annual Congress and assured colleagues of the full support of the Department of Health (DOH).

Herbosa is also a founding member and a Past President of the Philippine Society for the Surgery of Trauma (PSST). He has greatly upgraded the level of trauma care in the country through education, mentorship, and lobbying.

His expertise has always been recognized, which contributed to his being invited to be Special Adviser to the COVID-19 Task Force.

The health chief was recently the Chair of the Trauma Injury and Burn Care Commission established by the Philippine College Of Surgeons (PCS). The Commission aims to create a multidisciplinary comprehensive plan for injury, prevention, and care in the country.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. gave a marching order to strengthen the specialty centers, including trauma care, in the regions. DOH will therefore upgrade and equip, and more importantly link them to the health care provider networks as part of UHC. PSST will be a partner of the DOH and LGUs in making this happen.

“As your colleague and now your new Secretary of Health, let me assure you of my all-out support to trauma patients, that you all serve as trauma surgeons,” the health chief said.
