Two Filipina golfers shine in US Kids Golf Foundation tournament

MANILA, Philippines – Two Filipina golfers showcased their skills in the recent Rio Honda meet of the US Kids Golf Foundation held at the Rio Honda Golf Club in Downey, California.

Nicole Gaisano-Gan, 13, dominated the 13-14 girls category with an even-par 72, while her sister Stephanie, 7, scored a two-under 34 to win the 8-under girls division.

Nicole, a Grade 8 student at Immaculate Conception Academy in San Juan City, bested her competitors with a total of 30 points, outperforming Miyuki Shimada and Aria Wang of the US. Stephanie, on the other hand, edged out Arcella Rocha Santoso of Singapore and Sofia Shen of the US in her division.

In other categories, Brianna Macasaet won the 9-10 girls bracket, while Andres Gabriel Jeturian emerged as the lone Filipino winner in the boy’s division.

Despite missing a podium finish in the Rio Honda meet, seven-year-old Lucas de Guzman bounced back to win the seven-under boy’s division of the So Cal State Invitational a few days later.

Oliver Gan, president of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines, praised the Philippine delegation for their performance and emphasized the importance of continuing development programs for young golfers.
