Delgaco Secures Spot in Medal Round at the Asian Games in Hangzhou

Joanie Delgaco has secured a spot in the medal round following her impressive performance in the semifinals of the rowing competition at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The 25-year-old athlete, who previously won silver at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, placed second in her semifinal group for the women’s singles sculls event with a time of 8 minutes and 18.30 seconds.

Delgaco started off strongly, ranking first after 500 meters. However, she fell behind Shiho Yonekawa of Japan in the last 1500 meters, ultimately finishing in second place. Yonekawa claimed the top spot in their group with a time of 8:06.32. Leung Wing Wun from Hong Kong also advanced to the finals with a time of 8:20.35.

The other final qualifiers in the women’s singles sculls event include Uzbekistan’s Anna Prakaten, who topped the semifinal group A with a time of 7:47.88, China’s Liu Ruiqi (7:55.69), and Chinese Taipei’s Huang Yi ting (8:14.36). The finals for this event are scheduled to take place on Monday, September 25, at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre.

In the men’s single sculls event, Tokyo Olympian Cris Nievarez fell short of making it to the medal round after finishing fourth in his semifinal group with a time of 7:25.65. Similar to the women’s side, only the top three rowers from each semifinal group will advance to the final.

The Asian Games in Hangzhou have been a platform for showcasing the incredible talent of athletes from different countries. With Delgaco’s impressive performance securing her a spot in the medal round, fans are eagerly anticipating the finals as the competition intensifies.
