Bautista maps out path to junior golf success

A young golfer from Manila, Philippines, is making waves in the golfing world with a string of impressive victories. Javie Bautista, aged 11, recently secured top honors in his age category at the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines’ Cattle Creek Junior Open in Bulacan, and successfully defended his individual title in the Guam-Philippines Junior Golfers Goodwill Cup.

Bautista, who is a student at Ateneo, also teamed up with Patrick Driscoll to win the Scramble Team Event trophy at the Starts Guam Golf Resort. His accomplishments include a third-place finish at the Callaway Junior Golf Circuit in Calatagan, Batangas, boosting his confidence as he prepares for the Junior Philippine Golf Tour (JPGT) starting on May 7-10 at Luisita Golf and Country Club.

The JPGT, organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc., is a 15-leg circuit across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, culminating in the National Championships at The Country Club in Laguna in September. The tour aims to develop young golfers’ skills and nurture talent for international success.

Bautista, last year’s Luzon champion in the JPGT, attributes his success to rigorous training and a strong support system, including coaches Kevin Lachica, Bern Atienza, and Miko Alejandro. With the support of his family, particularly his accomplished brothers Miguel and Carlo Iñigo, Bautista is motivated to continue excelling in the world of junior golf with aspirations of becoming a world-class player in the future.
