Bacyadan defeats Spanish opponent to advance in Olympic boxing qualifiers

A Filipino boxer, Hergie Bacyadan, is just two wins away from achieving her dream of competing in the Olympics after a dominant performance in the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand. Bacyadan, a former vovinam world champion, defeated Dunia Martinez of Spain in the women’s 75-kilogram class round-of-32 match with a unanimous decision from all five judges.

Her next challenge will be facing former world champion Veronika Nakota of Hungary in the round-of-16. If Bacyadan continues her winning streak, she will join other Filipino boxers like Eumir Marcial, Nesthy Petecio, and Aira Villegas in the Paris Olympics.

Meanwhile, another Filipino boxer, Carlo Paalam, is also vying for a spot in the Olympics and was set to compete against Turkmenistan’s Shukur Ovezov in the men’s 57kg section. Paalam faces a tougher path to qualification, needing three more wins to secure his spot in Paris.

Despite the challenges ahead, both Bacyadan and Paalam are determined to give their all in pursuit of Olympic glory.
